Oasis of Magnificence
By Allan Goldstein of Oasis From Stress
We are often more critical of ourselves than we are of other people. My friend Leon Kalili is a self proclaimed Hawaiian Shaman. Leon has developed a wonderful perspective of the world. He views us all as magnificent beings and he honors this by speaking in a "language of magnificence." Leon has a magical way of framing things when he makes a mistake. Instead of groveling in apology, he non-arrogantly says, "It must have been a slip in my magnificence." It is the humble quality he has when speaking these words that let's everyone know he truly is sorry...with honor. By framing his apology in this way, he is acknowledging his imperfect human nature, and at the same time, he is acknowledging his magnificence. We all hold this unchanging magnificence in the depth of our being no matter how many mistakes we may make throughout our lives. Try it next time you make a mistake and let me know how honoring your magnificence feels. |
